This project involves the construction of a new cave house in the Ganema area on the island of Serifos. The central design concept revolves around an existing stone wall that extends almost the entire width of the plot, running from the northeast, near an existing building, to the southwestern boundary of the plot, parallel to the contour lines. The design aims to “preserve” this stone wall by integrating the new building as a cave construction behind it, using the wall as a secondary fa\u00e7ade, thereby minimizing the intervention in the natural landscape.<\/span><\/p>

The fa\u00e7ade of the new cave house is defined by two parallel walls. The first wall, in contact with the interior, primarily consists of sliding glass panels that span the full width of the corresponding interior spaces. The second wall, situated outward, alternates between solid stone segments and open gaps filled with perforated wooden shading panels on a sliding track. The space between these two walls serves as a semi-outdoor transition zone, functioning as a filter between the enclosed interior and the open exterior.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Above the roof slab and stone walls, an inverted beam, plastered in a beige-brown hue to harmonize with the surrounding landscape, supports the planted rooftop. In the outdoor area, extending from the facade, an outdoor seating area is formed, shaded by a pergola made of a metal frame and wooden slats offering filtered shade.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The dwelling includes a communal living and kitchen area, a wc, four bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, and an open office space in the form of a loft. While the current Special Regulation in Serifos prohibits the construction of swimming pools, the design has incorporated a studied location and form for a pool, allowing for future construction should the legislation change.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
