This is a new two-storey house in Methoni. A key element in the design is the integration of the building into the traditional settlement of Methoni. After an on-site study of the settlement\u2019s character and the morphological features of the buildings, as well as a review of the history and architectural traditions of the area, a framework of morphological elements was created in which it was deemed necessary to integrate the building into the local architectural context.<\/span><\/p>

Specifically, the clear shape of the proposed floor plan, the solid and uniform facade, and the tiled roof follow the compact and austere style of the settlement’s buildings. To redefine this form and meet functional requirements, the traditional typology was reinterpreted by extending the roof and creating overhangs. This design feature creates a transitional covered space on the west side of the building, which serves as the entrance, allowing for a smooth transition between the exterior and interior spaces. Similarly, the ledge on the east side protects both the balcony and the interior of the house from direct sunlight.<\/span><\/p>

The design of the facades was largely inspired by the traditional architecture of Methoni. The main view, with the balcony, is perfectly symmetrical and has proportions resembling a square, with numerous openings and a nearly 1:1 ratio of solid to void. The facade is finished in two different shades of colored plaster. The frame that forms the eaves is painted dark beige, while the recesses of the building are light beige. The roof is a saddle type, covered with tiles. The balcony, symmetrically placed on the facade, follows the proportions of the cantilevers commonly found in traditional buildings.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
